As-fed: farm glossary
As-fed describes feed in the condition in which it is offered, with its water included. The as-fed weight is the weight placed in the trough or bought from the supplier. A nutrient percentage on this basis uses the whole feed weight, including water. Dry matter expresses the same feed after its water is excluded.

A farm example
Example: 20 kg of feed at 50% dry matter has an as-fed weight of 20 kg and contains 10 kg of dry matter. Both amounts refer to the same material.
Everyday use
HerdMobile uses the feed’s dry-matter percentage to connect weighed feed amounts with nutrient calculations. Prices per as-fed kilogram apply to the whole purchased weight when ration cost is calculated.
