Kilogram: farm glossary
Kilogram, written kg, is a unit of mass used for feed, animal weights and other farm quantities. The number and unit together tell how much material was weighed. For feed, as-fed kilograms include water, while dry-matter kilograms describe the portion remaining after water is excluded. The feed’s dry-matter percentage connects the two quantities.
A farm example
A delivery weight in kilograms can be recorded with the feed name and date. An animal weight uses the same mass unit but belongs to the identified animal and weighing date.
Everyday use
HerdMobile uses kilogram quantities in feed and ration information. Pairing the feed amount with the price per kilogram gives the feed cost used in the daily plan.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
