Lambing: farm glossary

Lambing is the birth event in sheep. The ewe and the lambs are identified in the birth information, with the date and observations describing the event. An expected date belongs to preparation, while the observed birth belongs to the completed history. Each lamb has its own identity for later feeding and care notes.

A farm example

When a ewe gives birth to more than one lamb, individual lamb identification helps keep first feeding and subsequent checks with the correct newborn. The ewe’s history retains the lambing event.

Everyday use

HerdMobile’s animal and birth records help keep these relationships and dates together. The farmer can follow the ewe and each lamb through the notes recorded after birth.
