Percentage point: farm glossary
A percentage point is the arithmetic difference between two percentage values. It describes the gap in the percentages themselves. Relative percentage change instead compares that gap with the starting value. Both can describe the same change between two percentages, but they use different calculations and express different results.
A farm example
Example: moving from 10% to 12% is an increase of 2 percentage points, which equals a 20% relative increase over the starting 10%. The calculation also applies when comparing the crude-protein percentages of two feeds.
Everyday use
The distinction is useful when comparing feed analyses or milk-composition percentages. HerdMobile profile values retain their percentage units, allowing the farmer to compare the reported figures on the same basis.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
