Tonne: farm glossary
A tonne is a metric mass unit equal to 1,000 kilograms and written t. It is commonly used for large feed deliveries and supplier prices. A tonne quantity and a kilogram quantity can describe the same load after conversion. The feed’s as-fed or dry-matter basis still applies to the converted weight.
A farm example
Example: two metric tonnes equal 2,000 kilograms. Converting a delivery to kilograms makes it possible to compare it with the feed quantities used in a daily ration.
Everyday use
HerdMobile’s feed-cost calculations use the selected quantities and price basis. A supplier’s tonne price can be converted to a kilogram price before being used with kilogram feed amounts.
