Stock loss: farm glossary

Stock loss is a reduction in usable stored feed recorded separately from daily feeding. Spoilage, spillage and handling waste reduce the feed actually available for the herd. Recording the date, quantity and cause shows how much delivered feed was lost before reaching the animals.

A farm example

Feed damaged in storage can be recorded as a loss. The daily feeding entry describes what went to the animals, so the loss and feeding quantities each explain a different use of the purchased amount.

Everyday use

HerdMobile’s stock movements help follow these changes. Separate loss information supports a clearer usable-stock figure when checking feed supplies and planning the next purchase.
