Budget: farm glossary

A budget is a plan of the income and costs expected from a farm job or production period. Animal numbers, feeding days, daily feed quantities and expected prices provide the figures for a feed budget. The planned spending can then be compared with deliveries and bills as the work proceeds.

A farm example

A winter feed budget combines the number of animals with the days to be fed and the feeds in their daily ration. Supplier offers give expected prices, and later invoices show the purchases actually made. Feeding days multiplied by daily group feed use gives the feed quantity required for the period.

Everyday use

HerdMobile’s animal, stock and finance records provide farm figures for budgeting. Current feed stocks, purchase costs and completed sales help prepare the next period’s plan.
