Crude protein: farm glossary
Crude protein expresses measured feed nitrogen (N) as a protein equivalent using a conversion factor. It is commonly reported as a percentage of dry matter. The daily crude-protein contribution is calculated from that percentage and the amount of feed dry matter used in the ration.
Compiled from open-access scientific sources.
A farm example
Illustrative calculation: if a ration includes 2 kg of feed dry matter with 20% crude protein, that ingredient supplies 0.4 kg (400 g) of crude protein to the daily ration.
Everyday use
HerdMobile includes selected feed crude-protein values in ration calculations. The feed profile describes the ingredient’s concentration, while the daily plan brings the chosen ingredients and amounts together.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
