Dam: farm glossary

Dam means the female parent recorded for an animal. The link identifies which female is the animal’s mother and helps connect a birth with the right family record. The dam has her own animal history, while the offspring has a separate identity and events. Their relationship helps the farmer follow both sides of the birth.

A farm example

A calf’s card can identify its dam, while the cow’s history contains the calving event. The calf’s later feeding and growth notes remain with the calf, alongside its link to the mother.

Everyday use

HerdMobile’s animal records help keep the parent relationship and dated birth information together. This makes it easier to find the mother and offspring during daily care and follow-up.

How HerdMobile helps

Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
