Calving: farm glossary
Calving is the birth event in cattle. It connects the cow with her newborn calf and starts a new part of their care history. The observed date and birth notes describe what happened, while an expected date helps organise checks beforehand. The cow and calf each keep their own identity within that relationship.
A farm example
A calving note can include the dam, the calf and the time observed. Later colostrum and care notes add the newborn’s first feeding and checks to the birth history.
Everyday use
HerdMobile brings dated birth events and animal information together. The farmer can find the dam and calf, follow the recorded care and prepare the next task from their histories.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
