Feed batch: farm glossary

A feed batch is an identified quantity from a particular delivery, harvest or other source. Batches distinguish materials sold under the same feed name but obtained at different times. A batch name connects the feed in store with its purchase, sample and analysis. These details identify which result belongs to which delivery.

A farm example

Two hay deliveries can belong to separate batches even when both are alfalfa. Each delivery can have its own harvest details, moisture and nutrient analysis.

Everyday use

In HerdMobile, a clear feed name and dated purchase or use notes help identify the material behind the stock and ration figures. A new analysis supplies values for the current feed.
