Herd count: farm glossary

Herd count is the number of animals included in a group at a stated time. Because births, purchases, sales and status filters change which animals are in the group, the count always depends on the selected herd, date and animal statuses.

A farm example

Total daily feed for a group depends on how many animals are being fed that day. Selling animals or adding new arrivals changes the headcount used in the next ration calculation. A group of twenty animals needs twice the total feed of ten animals at the same daily amount per head.

Everyday use

HerdMobile organises animal cards within herds. The recorded group information helps the farmer review the current animals before planning feeding and daily care.

How HerdMobile helps

Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
