Premix: farm glossary

A premix is a prepared mixture used to distribute specified components through a larger feed mixture. It may contain vitamins, minerals and a carrier according to the product. The premix’s own composition and mixing rate determine its contribution to the finished feed. Product weight and the amount of each active component describe different parts of that calculation.

A farm example

A vitamin-and-mineral premix is included as one ingredient in a larger mixture. The manufacturer’s directions identify its intended species, mixing rate and use, which belong with the finished feeding formula.
