Species: farm glossary
Species identifies the kind of animal in a record, such as cattle, sheep or goat. It is one of the animal details used to organise farm work and nutrition information. Species and breed describe different levels: Holstein is a cattle breed, while the species identifies the broader animal kind.
A farm example
A sheep group and a cattle group can use different feed products and feeding targets. Mineral-product labels also identify the intended animal species, which is important when preparing their rations.
Everyday use
HerdMobile uses the selected species with the animal’s stage and other details in ration planning. Sheep-specific copper checks are one example of why species belongs in the feeding information.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
