Sire: farm glossary

Sire means the male parent recorded for an animal. It describes the father relationship in the animal’s family information. The sire and the offspring have separate animal records linked by parentage, so birth details and later observations stay on the individual animal’s own card. For cattle, sheep and goats, the male parent is a bull, ram or buck respectively.

A farm example

A calf’s family information can include the recorded sire and dam. The link identifies its parents, while the calf’s own card carries its birth, weight and care history over time.

Everyday use

HerdMobile animal information helps retain parent details with the animal’s history. A clear parent identification makes family information easier to find when reviewing births or updating the animal’s records.
