Temporary ear tag: farm glossary
A temporary animal identifier is a provisional label used while the final ear-tag details are being confirmed. It lets the farmer recognise the animal and attach birth and early care notes to the same record from the start.
A farm example
A newborn can be followed under a temporary label before the final ear-tag details are entered. Updating the identification keeps the animal’s early observations connected with the later name or tag. Birth time, colostrum feeding and check notes made under that label form the calf, lamb or kid’s early care history.
Everyday use
HerdMobile animal cards bring identification and dated events together. A clear temporary label helps distinguish the animal during the first entries and when the final details are added.
