Weaning: farm glossary
Weaning is the transition from milk feeding or suckling to a diet that meets the young animal’s needs after milk feeding ends. Species, feed intake and the individual animal’s condition are part of that transition. The planned date organises the work, while the observed change and later feeding notes describe how it happened.
A farm example
A calf, lamb or kid can have a planned transition date and dated observations of feed intake. Those notes show the feeding changes and checks carried out for that young animal.
Everyday use
HerdMobile’s animal history keeps dated notes and reminders together. The farmer can follow the transition, find earlier feeding observations and see the next planned check for the animal.
How HerdMobile helps
Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
