Estimated value: farm glossary

An estimated value is calculated or inferred from partial data—such as multiplying a bale count by a typical bale weight—rather than from measuring the entire quantity directly.

A farm example

Multiplying a hay-bale count by a representative bale weight gives an estimated stock amount. A later full weighing supplies a measurement for the feed that was actually weighed. Wetter or larger bales change the estimated weight, so a newly weighed representative bale can change the stock estimate.

Everyday use

HerdMobile feed profiles indicate when a nutrient composition value is an estimate. In ration planning, HerdMobile uses the nutrient profiles of the selected feeds together with the feed quantities and prices entered by the farmer.

How HerdMobile helps

Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
