Feed stock: farm glossary

Feed stock is the amount of an identified feed held in storage. It increases with deliveries and decreases with recorded use, losses or adjustments. The feed name, quantity and unit describe the stock. The usable amount in the barn or silo provides the feed available for the next feeding period and purchase plan.

A farm example

A hay delivery increases stock, while recorded feeding removes feed from it. Weighing or counting the feed in the barn compares the usable amount with the balance recorded on the phone.

Everyday use

HerdMobile keeps feed-stock movements alongside the feeds used in ration planning. Current stock helps the farmer see the feed available and organise the next purchase.
