Sodium: farm glossary

Sodium is a mineral element labelled Na in feed reports. A sodium concentration describes the element’s share of a feed or product. A salt product has its own total weight and composition; its sodium content is a part of that weight. The analysis unit and dry-matter or as-fed basis explain how the reported figure should enter a feed calculation.

A farm example

A compound feed and a salt-containing product can both contribute sodium. The complete diet combines these contributions using each product’s concentration and the amount included in the daily feeding plan.

Everyday use

HerdMobile displays available sodium values in feed profiles and daily feed quantities in the ration plan. The concentration and feed amount on the same basis give each ingredient’s sodium contribution.

How HerdMobile helps

Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
