Mineral supplement: farm glossary

A mineral supplement supplies specified minerals alongside the other feeds in a diet. Its label gives the intended animal species, composition and directions for use. The mineral concentration describes the product; daily supply depends on the amount included and the minerals already present in the other feeds. Both belong in the complete ration’s mineral calculation.

A farm example

Illustrative calculation: 50 g of a mineral supplement containing 18% calcium supplies 9 g of calcium. This contribution is added to calcium from the other feeds; the product label specifies its intended animals and feeding directions.

Everyday use

HerdMobile applies species-specific feed checks, including copper checks for sheep. Its ration calculation uses the selected feeds and amounts together with the animal group’s information.
