Per head per day: farm glossary
Per head per day expresses an amount or cost for one animal over one day. It places group totals on a common animal-and-time basis. The animals included and the length of the period determine the denominator. A changing group count changes the animal-days represented by a period’s records.
A farm example
Example: 10 animals observed over 2 days, with the count unchanged, represent 20 animal-days. Dividing the matching period total by 20 gives the average amount or cost per animal-day.
Everyday use
HerdMobile’s daily ration and feed-cost information helps the farmer follow quantities and costs per animal. The group and period identify which farm records belong to the comparison.
