Feed analysis: farm glossary

Feed analysis examines a sample to report its composition or other selected properties. A report may include dry matter, crude protein, fibre and minerals, together with the methods and units used. Some reported figures are measured and others are calculated from the results. The nutrient name, unit and dry-matter or as-fed basis give each number its meaning.

A farm example

A protein percentage and a copper value in milligrams per kilogram describe different nutrients and units. Their contributions to the ration depend on the amount of that feed used.

Everyday use

HerdMobile uses the feed values entered for the selected ingredients in its ration calculation. A current analysis helps the calculation follow the feed actually available on the farm.

How HerdMobile helps

Bring your animals, feed stocks and farm accounts together on your Android phone. HerdMobile keeps your daily work moving offline: record events, compare feed quantities and follow sales and payments in one place. Use your own feeds and herd information to prepare a ration, then keep a backup file under your control.
