Unknown value: farm glossary
An unknown value means a figure has not yet been recorded or measured for a feed or animal record. For example, a feed analysis may leave a nutrient blank, or an animal event may not have an exact time recorded. Unlike a measured zero, which is an actual test result, an unknown field simply indicates missing information.
A farm example
Illustrative report: a barley analysis gives 88% dry matter and 11.5% crude protein in dry matter, with selenium untested. The selenium value is unknown; the report has supplied no selenium measurement.
Everyday use
HerdMobile feed profiles show unknown fields where source values are missing. This helps identify the feed information still needed when the farmer prepares the inputs for a ration.
