Add an animal with the correct ear tag
Use the Animal Record form to connect an animal to its business and herd. Enter the physical ear tag carefully, then add known details such as breed, birth date, purchase information or a photo. Review the saved record before adding the next animal, especially when several tags look similar.
Open the right herd
Find the business and herd in the herd list and select Add Animal beneath that business. In Animal Record, check Business name and Herd name before entering a tag. When adding to an existing herd these values are prefilled and read-only. If this is your first record, use Add Business instead.
Enter or scan the tag
Enter Ear tag number exactly as it appears on the animal. The scanner button beside this field can read a supported QR code or barcode. Allow camera access if you choose scanning. Compare the scanned text with the physical ear tag before saving so the record belongs to the intended animal.
Add known details
Open Optional animal fields to add information you actually know. Select Species, Sex and Breed as appropriate. Check the displayed format for Birth date (YYYY-MM-DD) and Purchase date (YYYY-MM-DD). Record the purchase price in the app’s current currency. Leave unknown optional information empty rather than guessing.
Add an identifying photo
Choose Camera for a new image or Gallery for an existing one. Grant only the permission needed for the action you selected. Check that the preview shows the intended animal. Avoid including people, documents or unrelated private information in a photo that you might later share with your own records.
Save and verify
Select Save once and wait for the result. Open the animal from the herd list and check the tag, herd and optional fields. For an eligible cattle record the app may offer Complete now to finish the feeding profile, or Later. Check the animal’s weight and production details in the feeding profile before using them for ration planning.
What if the form rejects my entry?
Read the literal message before changing fields. Business, herd and ear tag are required. A date warning concerns the displayed date format; a price warning concerns the number. Correct the relevant field and check the saved list before retrying to keep a single record of the animal.
How do I correct an existing record?
Open the existing animal and its edit form rather than adding a second animal to fix a typo. The edit form includes Herd selection for the animal’s business. Compare the corrected record with your source notes afterward. Create a backup after a substantial entry session and keep the original purchase documents separately.
