Reset a forgotten app PIN with your phone’s lock

If you forget your app PIN, tap Forgot PIN and unlock with your Android screen lock, fingerprint or face check to set a new one. Your herd records stay safe on your phone and the app lock remains on. Older encrypted ZIP backups still open only with the PIN used when they were created, so keep those backup files and their original PINs in separate safe places. Right after setting your new PIN, create a fresh backup and make sure the file is saved.

  1. Tap Forgot PIN

On the app lock screen, tap Forgot PIN. Read the warning about older backups: each encrypted backup opens with the PIN used when it was created. Follow the steps on this screen to reach the herd records already on your phone. You can also open the same recovery screen from the app-lock section in profile settings. Keep HerdMobile installed and hold on to your existing backup files while you choose your new PIN.

  2. Verify with your phone’s lock

Tap Verify with biometrics or device lock, then complete the fingerprint, face or screen-lock check your phone offers. Once the check succeeds, the new PIN fields appear. If you cancel, you can continue with your current app PIN. If you leave the app while entering a new PIN, verify with your phone again when you return and enter your new PIN again. This approval applies to the profile you have open.

  3. Enter your new PIN twice

In New PIN, enter a code of at least four characters. Type the same code in Confirm new PIN. Check both fields together and correct any typing mistakes before saving. Spaces at the beginning and end are removed. Choose a code you can remember, keep it private and store it safely. This is the code for opening HerdMobile; manage your phone’s screen-lock code separately in Android settings. When asking support for help, describe the problem and keep both codes to yourself.

  4. Save and make a fresh backup

Tap Save once and wait for the reset to finish. Open your animal list and check your records; the app lock stays on with your new PIN. Next, create a fresh backup in the app. Make sure you can find the saved file, and keep another copy somewhere outside your phone. Continue backing up as you add records. Store older encrypted files safely together with a separate record of the original PIN needed for each file.

If your phone’s lock check is unavailable

Check your screen lock and your chosen biometric method in Android settings, then return to HerdMobile and try verification again. You can look up the message shown on screen in the troubleshooting centre. If you need help, tell support the message and the step you reached. Keep the app installed to preserve the records on your phone, and keep existing backup files and their original PINs in safe places.
