Record a lost, dead or slaughtered animal

Use Status Record for a confirmed loss, death or slaughter on an active animal. Choose the correct category and add a clear note before saving. This changes the animal’s lifecycle, cancels open lifecycle reminders and requires affected ration membership to be reassessed. A sale has its own flow and should not be recorded as a loss.

  1. Identify the animal and event

Open the animal’s detail page and verify its ear tag, business and current state against your farm record. Select Status Record only for an active, unarchived animal. Do not use it as a temporary display filter or a way to hide a difficult-to-find record. Check the actual event before making a lifecycle change that will affect reminders and rations.

  2. Choose the correct status

The form offers Lost, Death and Slaughter. It initially selects Lost, so explicitly check the selected option rather than accepting the default. Choose the category that describes what happened. Use the animal sale form when money and ownership have changed, so the sale and its financial details stay together.

  3. Add context and save deliberately

Use Note to preserve the context you actually know, including a date in the note if it helps explain an earlier event. The status form updates the animal’s current state; note the exact event date in your farm records. Review the animal and selected category, then choose Save once. The app updates the status, adds a lifecycle event, cancels open lifecycle reminders and invalidates related ration membership.

  4. Check the result and any correction

Inspect the animal’s status and timeline, then review tasks that previously relied on its reminders. If the eligible non-sale status was entered in error, Revert Status on the detail page returns the animal to active and reopens unfinished reminders cancelled by its lifecycle change. Check the saved result together with quiet hours, Android notification permission and the phone’s battery settings.

Which records can status reversal change?

The domain rejects reversal for an archived animal, an already active animal or a sold animal. Do not describe Revert Status as a general undo for archive or sale. Inspect the current state and preserve your notes if the action is unavailable. Ask support about the specific record instead of creating a duplicate or modifying unrelated financial entries.

What happens to feeding and follow-up?

A lifecycle change alters which animals belong in an active plan. Reassess the relevant ration rather than applying yesterday’s membership unchanged. Keep a separate farm checklist for outstanding tasks while reminders are cancelled or reopened. Keep the selected status and dated observations together so the animal’s history is easy to follow.
