Correct an existing animal record

Use Edit on the existing animal to correct its identity, herd assignment or optional details. Check the ear tag before changing anything and verify the saved result afterwards. Creating a second animal to fix a typing mistake can split the history across two records; keeping the existing record preserves the link to its events.

  1. Find the right existing animal

Open the animal from the herd list and compare the ear tag with your source record. Check the business, herd and ear tag alongside the photo so you open the intended animal’s record. Choose Edit to open Edit Animal. The action is disabled for an archived animal, so do not create a replacement record simply because editing is unavailable.

  2. Correct identity and herd carefully

Review Ear tag number and use Herd selection for the intended herd within the animal’s existing business. Check the breed and birth date against reliable records instead of guessing. A herd move changes membership used by ration-related calculations, so review any affected ration afterwards. Use this form to keep the animal’s identity and details current; record a sale through the dedicated animal sale form.

  3. Review optional fields and photo

Expand the optional fields only for details you need to correct. Review parent ear tags, purchase information and notes. Clearing a previously entered birth date, purchase date or purchase price requests removal of that value when saving; do not leave a field blank merely because you do not intend to edit it. If replacing a photo, complete the camera or gallery selection before saving.

  4. Save and inspect the same record

Choose Save once and allow validation to finish. Correct any date, amount or domain error in the form rather than repeatedly submitting unchanged values. After a successful save, reopen the same animal and compare the corrected fields and timeline. If a device-save warning appears, preserve the attempted values and follow its troubleshooting page before assuming the correction reached storage.

Does an edit record a purchase or sale?

Use the appropriate financial or animal-sale flow for those activities. After editing purchase information, compare the existing financial entry and keep the transaction recorded once. Keep your original paper or invoice information until you have compared the resulting animal details and any related records. Do not change an ear tag to disguise a different animal’s identity.

What should I check after moving herds?

Find the animal under its intended herd and confirm that its existing history still belongs to that animal. Check the ration context before applying another daily plan because membership changes can invalidate an earlier assessment. Keep a regular backup habit after checking corrections; restoring a ZIP replaces all local records on the phone where you restore it.
