Back up records and move to a new phone
Create a manual ZIP backup, keep a copy outside the phone, and inspect its preview before restoring. Restore replaces the destination device’s local records. Choose the backup file and save or pick it through Google Drive when you want to transfer your records. A PIN-protected backup needs the PIN that was active when that file was created.
Export the source phone
Open Backup in the profile screen and select Create Backup File. Finish saving or sharing through Android. Save to Google Drive is another manual handoff through the device’s file/share flow. Finish saving the ZIP and check that the named file opens from your chosen location outside HerdMobile.
Keep the file and its PIN
Copy the backup to storage you control outside the source phone and keep the original phone unchanged. If the backup was protected with an app PIN, retain that original PIN securely. Each older backup retains the PIN used when it was created; keep that PIN separately from the file. Never send a backup or PIN to this website.
Protect the destination records
Before importing anything, export a separate backup of any records already on the destination phone. Do not assume two datasets will be combined. Select Pick from Google Drive and use Android’s picker to choose the intended backup file from Drive or your device folders. Choose the correct dated file, not simply the first ZIP in the list.
Inspect the preview
If asked for the backup PIN, enter the PIN used when that file was created. Open Backup Preview and compare the businesses, herds, animals, events, photos and ration counts with your expectations. Check included and missing photos. If the preview is wrong or incomplete, cancel and return to the source phone or another preserved copy.
Restore only after checking
Read Existing device data will change and select Restore only when replacement is intended. Wait for the result. Open several animal records, recent events and photos on the destination phone. Keep the source phone and both backup files until you have checked the restored records. Create a new backup after confirming the move.
What if I forgot the app PIN?
The current app includes Forgot PIN and device-authenticated PIN recovery on supported devices. This can replace the application lock without deleting local records. Open an older PIN-protected backup with the PIN used when that ZIP was created. Do not clear app storage or uninstall as a troubleshooting step: local records may be your only remaining copy.
Why keep more than one backup?
Check that the backup file is accessible, keep its original PIN and compare the restore preview with the records you expect. File access, available storage, the chosen backup and the original PIN all matter. Keep an older known copy when creating a fresh one. If restore fails, record the exact error, preserve the file unchanged and check the source phone before attempting another import.
