The backup file could not be read

Choose a completed HerdMobile backup and check its preview while keeping your original file and current records.

Why does this happen?

The backup or saved data file could not be opened. Check file access, whether the transfer completed and the original PIN if requested. A readable preview lets you review the backup before deciding to restore.

How do I check it?

  1. Note the selected filename and location. Choose a ZIP created by HerdMobile’s backup flow; keep the original and source phone unchanged. Complete any Drive or device transfer and select the actual accessible file. Keep another unchanged copy.

  2. Try Backup Preview with that copy. If asked, enter the PIN used when that ZIP was created. If reading still fails, keep the exact message and contact Product support with the app version and transfer method; keep PINs and backup contents private.

  3. Before a planned restore, back up the destination’s existing records separately. Compare the preview counts with your expected businesses, herds, animals and photos. Read the replacement warning; choose Restore only for the intended file and destination, or Cancel to keep checking.

How do I verify the result?

Restore replaces the phone’s current records with the selected backup. After an intentional restore, inspect animals and recent events and keep earlier copies until the result is checked.

How do I keep my records safe?

Preserve current app data, the source phone and original ZIP. Keep backup files intact while investigating; use the app’s preview and restore controls with a deliberate recovery plan.
